Abstract
The Wastewaters of the chemical industry present high toxic organic compounds content that are very difficult to degrade. Between these the nitroaromatics compounds are toxic to the microorganisms and inhibit the wastewater treatment, are resistant to the biodegradation and tend to be accumulated in the environment. The objective of this work was to evaluate the treatment of 2,4-Dinitrophenol (2, 4-DNP) by means of discontinuous sequencing biofilter combining anaerobic and aerobic phases of reaction with the purpose of mineralize 2,4-DNP. An acrylic reactor of 9 L packed with Biomedia (material plastic) was used. Activated sludge of a plant of industrial wastewater treatment was used as inoculums. Synthetic wastewater was formed by 2,4-DNP, propionic acid as co-substrate and mineral medium nutrient was used. The acclimatization was reached in cycle 14 after 61 days of operation. The operation concentrations were of 10, 15, 25 and 30 mg/L.
The reaction time diminished of 139 to 70 h when the biomass was becomes acclimated. In order to guarantee conditions of reduction in the anaerobic phase the ORP (oxidation-reduction potential) was of in average of -300 mV. In the aerobic phase the values of ORP were in average 76 mV what assured conditions of oxidation. The reactor operated during 36 cycles (132 days) with efficiencies of global removal of 2,4-DNP of 91%. The efficiency of reduction and biotransformation of 2,4-DNP to amines 2-Amine-4-Nitrophenol (2A-4NP) and 2,4-Diaminephenol (2,4-DAP) was of 83%. In the aerobic phase 91% of removal of amines formed was reached.
