Organic matter modeling in volcanic soils from the Teziutlán region, Puebla, Mexico
Main Article Content
Abstract
At present, the relevance that the organic matter modeling has, it is closely linked to the relationship that Organic Matter keeps with Soil Organic Carbon. The last, has a direct impact on Carbon storage in soils and hence in mitigating of CO2 emissions, one of the Greenhouse Effect Gases (GHG’s) of higher importance. The objective of this study was to model the organic carbon content based on the properties of volcanic soils, using the Partial Least Square Regression. As a result it is noted that of all the soils properties considered in the study only the Bulk Density, the% of Total Nitrogen, the% of Al and Fe extractables, the Cationic Exchange Capability and the soil reaction (water and KCl) were the most related variables with Organic Carbon Soil and; of these properties, which presents a more marked relationship was the Bulk Density. It was also noted that some environmental conditions, such as rainfall and altitude are closely related to the storing carbon process in soil.
