Surface characteristic of a cuban volcanic glass and Cu2+ remotion from aqueous solutions
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Chemical and phases composition were determained in a cuban volcanic glass with the use of different analytical techniques. The adsorption isotherm of nitrogen at 77 K was correlated with the BET, Langmuir and Dubinin ecuations. These three models combined with mercury porosimetry showed that the mineral is essencially a mesoporous-macroporous material. Volcanic glass samples activated by 0.0M, 0.2M, 0.4M and 0.6M concentrations of H2SO4 solutions were studied as adsorbents for the removal of Cu2+ from aqueous solutions of CuCl2 in the concentration rage of 10- 2 -0,8 mol l-1. It has been found that the amount of Cu2+ adsorbed increased with increased concentratión of CuCl2 solutions, whereas it decreased as the acid concentration of activation solution increased. The experimental adsorption isotherms showed good correlations with the Langmuir model, and the Langmuir parameters were found from its linearized adsorption isotherm. The adsorption values showed that this volcanic glass have a hight surface concentration of OH groups, and for these razon it can remove appreciables cuantities of Cu2+ from aqueous solutions.
