Abstract

Caesalpinia platyloba is a native species of the dry deciduous forest of Mexico, feasible to use in the recovery process of vegetation cover, for its ecological value and economic potential. Larger trees are hard to find due to overexploitation. This paper was developed in order to evaluate Caesalpinia platyloba grow in a forest plantation in ejido Buenavista de Mochicahui, El Fuerte in northern Sinaloa, México. We determined the chemical and physical properties of soil. Height and diameter dendrometric variables were measured to 62 random trees in 4 different sites in the plantation to get a population dendrometric value. We also determined the volume/ha increase. Results in the chemical and physical properties indicated a texture with higher clay content, midly alkaline, low in organic matter and free of chlorides. In relation to dendrometric values, the edge area plantation has a differentiation to the rest with lower values of height and diameter who indicates that the individuos were disadvantaged in grow due to being put through to higher stress levels by the edge effect. Trees with higher values of height and diameter were located in the area planted next to a farm and they were those who were in contact with the irrigation of the agricultural planting.
