Interaction between sorghum and wheat varieties in the production of a relay system wheat-sorghum
Main Article Content
Abstract
From winter 2011 to spring 2012 cycle was conducted a field experiment which aim was to quantify the interaction between wheat and sorghum varieties at the yield of relay intercropping system wheat-sorghum. This work consisted in three series of experiments, using three different wheat varieties (Jupare, Borlaug and CM98542). On each experiment (wheat variety) were planted on relay nine genotypes of sorghum: DK38, P8358, D55, DK50, BR57, Sapphire, Bravo L, M911 and P8171. Each experiment was (variety of wheat) in randomized blocks and it was made with four repetitions; everything was fertilized with 230-40-00 kg/ha of N, P2O5 and K2O respectively. The results showed that the structure of wheat plant, given by the plant high, shape of the leaves and capacity to produce tillers modifies the behavior of sorghum plants, which competitive effect is exhibit by slowing their phenological events. Under working conditions the wheat yield was of 7032, 6645 and 6560 kg of grain/ha for Jupare, Borlaug and CMH98542 varieties respectively. The most attractive sorghum varieties for the system in order of importance were BR57, DK50 and Saphire with yields of 7052, 7051 and 6949 kg/ha respectively. Seen by the profit-earning capacity the combination performed by Jupare (wheat) and Dekalb BR57 (sorghum), with a net income of 947 dollars per hectare was the most attractive.
