Abstract

In mung bean sprouts production systems, the increase root temperature of the crop represents the main problem for the product quality; irrigation water is the principal resource to reduce the crop temperature. Based on above, the objective of this study was implementing and evaluating a data acquisition system (DAS) through the monitoring of root temperature, ambient temperature and relative humidity in a crop of mung bean sprouts to determine the effect of irrigation on the crop temperature. For the implementation of the DAS, reconfigurable and open source hardware (Arduino) was used. Evaluation was conducted with trial of a full cycle culture, which lasted 4 days. Monitoring was carried out in the complete culture cycle and the sensors values were stored on the DAS database every ten minutes. The crop and irrigation water were kept at the ambient temperature of the laboratory. Irrigations were applied every two hours during the four days of the trial. A descriptive statistical analysis (graphics methods and measures of central tendency) and analysis of regression by least squares was used to evaluate the behavior of the temperature throughout the development of the crop. The data show that the root temperature is higher (32 ° C) than the environmental (30 ° C) during the second and third day of culture with an approximate difference of 3-4%. Regression analysis indicated a correlation coefficient of r = 0.90.
