Abstract

The state of Tamaulipas is the first sorghum producer nationwide, in recent years interest in different types of this crop has increased; lignocellulosic biomass that is generated as crop residue are generally burned, causing greater contamination. The objective of this work was to obtain hydrolyzed acids from sweet sorghum straw and then evaluate the production of bioethanol by Picha stipitis using the hydrolysates as a carbon source. The variables for the hydrolysis were acid concentration, temperature, solid-liquid ratio and reaction time. For the fermentation, temperature, agitation speed and hydrolysates were evaluated with and without detoxification. The highest concentration of ethanol was found with non-detoxified hydrolysates, 25 °C and 200 rpm.
