Abstract

The production of micro-bubbles and foam (ME) in hyper-intensive shrimp culture ponds are generally associated with the production of Biofloc. Using an image analysis, the water column of the highest generation of ME was found. For this, the Image Processing Toolbox from MATLAB program and an image filtering algorithm were used. For the bioassay, a 7.5 HP regenerative blower aerator was used, connected to a combined system of airlifts (box and angle type) with micro-perforated hose and a 1.0 m deep tank. Images were measured at 0.05 m intervals to the maximum water column design. The results show that ME measurements associated with the electrical consumption, depth and dynamics of the pond can help improve crop efficiency. In the practical case, it was shown that the highest ME production was between 0.40 and 0.85 m of water column with a saving in electrical consumption of 5-8%, in relation to that obtained at the maximum level of pond operation. The angular airlift was more efficient in ME generation than the box airlift. The results may vary in other cases depending on the water quality, biomass load of the pond, airlift characteristics and blower capacity.
