Desert plants as a socio-environmental strategy to mitigate desertification
Main Article Content
Abstract
This work aimed to review the current state of desertification, a process of degradation of the land's productive capacity, which occurs particularly in arid and semi-arid regions of the world. Desertification negatively affects nature since it threatens diversity, food security, and quality of life at the international level. This phenomenon is progressively increasing due to environmental factors and human intervention in many regions. This review proposes the use of endemic plants from arid zones as a strategy to stop and/or prevent the desertification phenomenon. Additionally, social aspects that must be considered in restoration projects using endemic species are included as a key element to obtain the expected results.
