The Environmental Interpreters
Main Article Content
Abstract
Mexico stands out globally for its remarkable biological diversity, hosting nearly 10% of the world’s species within a relatively small portion of the Earth's land surface. This natural wealth is the result of a unique combination of geographic, climatic, and ecological factors, which have also shaped cultures that are deeply connected to their natural surroundings. Despite this natural and cultural advantage, the country faces serious and worsening environmental threats, such as deforestation, pollution, and species loss. Although there are efforts in place—such as protected natural areas and local conservation projects—these measures have not been enough to reverse the damage. Given this situation, it is urgent for all sectors of society to actively collaborate on solutions that support biodiversity conservation. Rooted in ecological principles, these actions should be practical, accessible, and adaptable for different social actors. A key step forward involves improving dialogue among sectors such as academia, government, business, and community organizations. To achieve this, it is essential to promote the role of mediators—individuals capable of translating scientific knowledge into actionable and comprehensible information for decision-making. This role would help create more inclusive, effective, and sustainable environmental policies.
